Ad van Hassel was born in Roosendaal in 1953. Ad began painting in 1980 after years of pursuing various creative disciplines. In 1983, he established two exclusive galleries in the Sonesta and Krasnapolsky hotels in Amsterdam.

Ad has used screen printing since 1990, not only for his own work, but also for the work of other artists. He was Herman Brood's regular printer for 12 years, but others such as Corneille, Jan Cremer, Rob Scholte, Shunyam and Peter Diem also used his skills.
