Emiliana Cordaro, born in 1967 in Maarssen, completed her studies at the Hogeschool voor de Kunsten in Utrecht. She paints impressionistic landscapes in oil, drawing inspiration from the beautiful places she discovers during her travels, from quaint Italian villages to vast European moors, and everything in between.
Her work is all about the atmosphere of the landscape rather than an exact representation of reality. She transforms landscapes into compositions of shapes, lines, colors and contrasts. By using vibrant pigments, she creates a vivid color palette reminiscent of William Turner’s later work. With paint and pigments modeling in layers, as if it were clay, she models atmospheric and sometimes transparent images through which the original landscape comes to life. The rich texture and depth in her paintings, comparable to discovering subtle flavors in a good wine, require time to be fully appreciated. Despite the modern nature of her work, it still exudes a classical feel, thanks in part to the beautiful “Dutch skies.
