About the artist
Hans Jochem Bakker (born 1948) is a Dutch autodidact from an old artistic family. Inspired by such luminaries as Salvador Dalí, Miró and Picasso, he incorporated elements of their southern temperament into his subject matter. His work shows a particular interest in bullfighting, birds, horses and women.
Artistic evolution
In his early period, Bakker mainly followed the footsteps of Salvador Dalí, with subject matter full of mystical and nightmarish images. This resulted in highly detailed and extraordinarily cleverly painted visions. Later, his style evolved to a more expressionist approach, centered on joy and spontaneous expression.
Unity of form, color and movement
Bakker’s works are honest and straight from the passionate artist’s heart. Everything is in motion, and this is also the main reason for him to keep painting. Each painting thus becomes a unity of form, color and movement, completing the act of painting.
