About Hans Jochem Bakker
A self-taught artist
Hans Jochem Bakker (b. 1948) lives and works in the Netherlands and is a self-taught artist from an old artistic family. Inspired by such luminaries as Salvador DalÃ, Miró and Picasso, he integrated elements of their southern temperament into his own subject matter. His work shows a particular interest in bullfighting, birds, horses and women.
Artistic evolution
In his early period, Bakker mainly followed in the footsteps of Salvador DalÃ, with subject matter full of mystical and nightmarish images. This resulted in highly detailed and handsomely painted visions. Later his method evolved into an expressionist style, freeing himself from his self-imposed limitations. This liberation speaks from his new work, which exudes unbridled joy and spontaneity.
The passion of an artist
Bakker paints as spontaneously as possible, honestly and straight from his passionate artist soul. Everything is in motion in his work, which is also the main reason to keep painting. This dynamic makes each painting a unity of form, color and movement, and ensures that his artworks continue to fascinate.
