About the artist – Hans Jochem Bakker

Hans Jochem Bakker (born 1948) lives and works in the Netherlands. A self-taught artist from an old artistic family, he has been inspired by such luminaries as Salvador Dalí, Miró and Picasso. This influence is evident in his subject matter, which often includes bullfighting, birds, horses and women.

In his early period, he mainly followed in the footsteps of Salvador Dalí, with subject matter full of mystical and nightmarish images. This resulted in highly detailed and handsomely painted visions. He later developed an expressionist style, in which he freed himself from his self-imposed limitations. This new way of working exudes unbridled joy and spontaneity straight from the artist’s passionate heart.

Unity of form, color and movement

Hans Jochem Bakker strives to make his paintings as spontaneous and honest as possible, full of movement and passion. This makes his work vibrant and dynamic, and ensures that each painting is a unique unity of form, color and movement.
