About Hans Jochem Bakker

Hans Jochem Bakker (born 1948) lives and works in the Netherlands. A self-taught artist coming from an old artistic family, he draws inspiration from such luminaries as Salvador Dalí, Miró and Picasso. This translates into his subject matter, in which bullfighting, birds, horses and women play prominent roles.

Artistic development

In his early period, Bakker mostly followed the footsteps of Salvador Dalí, with thematics full of mystical and nightmarish images. This resulted in highly detailed and handsomely painted visions. Later he developed an expressionist style, in which he freed himself from his own limitations. His new work radiates unbridled joy at this liberation.

Passion and movement

Hans Jochem Bakker paints as spontaneously as possible, straight from his passionate artist soul. Everything is in motion, and this is the main reason he continues to paint. This dynamic makes each painting a unity of form, color and movement.
