Fun museums of Amersfoort
Are you looking for the best museums in Amersfoort?
Fun museums in Amersfoort are surprisingly plentiful, especially if you love art, history and design. Therefore, a day in Amersfoort is not complete without a visit to an Amersfoort museum. These are the best recommendations:
Mondrian House
This is the birthplace of Piet Mondrian. Here you will learn about his development from realistic painter to the famous abstract style with color fields. The museum is interactive and not that big, so it is ideal for a short but interesting visit.
Flehite Museum
Amersfoort’s city museum. Here you will discover the history of the city, from the Middle Ages to the present. There are often changing exhibitions with art and photography.
Kunsthal KAdE
Modern art and design take center stage here. The exhibitions change frequently and are usually very accessible, even if you’re not much into art.
National Military Museum
A little outside Amersfoort (Soest), but definitely recommended. Great planes, tanks and interactive exhibits on military history. Also great fun if you’re not necessarily the “museum type.
Amersfoort Art Gallery
Not actually a museum, but definitely worth a visit if you like art, and free too! The collection is contemporary and diverse. There is a large collection of about 60 national and international artists. If you come by train it is wise to visit it first and then walk to the city center. Parking is available opposite the gallery on the square.
Additional tip (smaller and special)
A small contemporary art museum. Often surprising and quiet, ideal if you are looking for something original.
