Passe Partouts

You have come to the right place for all your (loose) passepartouts. For conservation, we use only acid-free (museum) board and cut your passepartout to your desired size.

What are passe-partouts used for? A passe-partout is used for paintings for several reasons:

1. Aesthetics: a passe-partout can add another layer of visual interest to a painting, separating it from the frame and creating a visual break between the painting and the frame. It can also help draw attention to the painting by creating a contrast between the passe-partout and the painting.

2. Protection: a passe-partout can act as a barrier between the painting and the glass that covers it, preventing any contact between the two surfaces that could cause damage to the painting. It can also help protect the painting from moisture that may accumulate on the glazing.

3. Framing: a passe-partout can help create space between the painting and the frame, allowing the painting to sit more comfortably in the frame and preventing any contact between the painting and the frame that could cause damage.

4. Conservation: a passe-partout can help create a buffer zone between the painting and its surroundings, protecting it from fluctuations in temperature or humidity that can cause damage over time. In general, a passe-partout can help increase the visual impact of a painting while providing protection and conservation benefits.

In short: Amersfoort Art is also the right place for custom-made passe-partouts!
