About Hans Jochem Bakker
Hans Jochem Bakker (born 1948) is a self-taught artist from the Netherlands, coming from an old artist family. Inspired by such luminaries as Salvador Dalí, Miró and Picasso, he incorporated elements of their southern temperament into his work. His subject matter often includes bullfighting, birds, horses and women.
An evolving style
In his early period, Bakker mainly followed the style of Salvador Dalí, with mystical and nightmarish images. This resulted in highly detailed and technically impressive paintings. Later his method developed toward expressionism, freeing himself from his earlier limitations. His new work radiates unbridled joy at this liberation.
Passion and movement
Bakker paints as spontaneously as possible, honestly and straight from his passionate artist soul. Everything is in motion, and that is the main reason for him to keep painting. This completes each act of painting and makes the painting a unity of form, color and movement.
