About Hans Jochem Bakker
Hans Jochem Bakker (born 1948) lives and works in the Netherlands. A self-taught artist from an old artistic family, he has been inspired by such luminaries as Salvador DalÃ, Miró and Picasso. These influences are reflected in his subject matter, with particular attention to bullfighting, birds, horses and women.
From mystical images to expressionism
In his earlier works, Bakker mainly followed in the footsteps of Salvador DalÃ, with subject matter full of mystical and nightmarish images. This period produced highly detailed and handsomely painted visions. Later, the artist freed himself from this style and developed a more expressionistic working method.
Passion and movement
Bakker’s work is characterized by a spontaneous, honest and passionate approach. Everything is in motion, and this is the main reason for him to keep painting. This dynamism makes his paintings a unity of form, color and movement.
