Description
Artist Theo Mackaay, who conceived the figurine in 1980, produced a large number of Calves in the early 1980s. Some of these he gave away to friends and acquaintances. These specimens in particular sometimes turn up at auctions. An awarded Calf has the winner’s name engraved on it.
The Netherlands Film Festival is unhappy with this state of affairs but can do little to stop it. Agreements have since been made with Mackaay that the images may only be distributed as prizes at the Dutch Film Festival.
As far as we know, there has never been a winner who has offered his Calf for sale. As a matter of fact, Calves are sometimes rejected by winners. For example, actor Rijk de Gooyer threw his statue out the window of a cab in 1995 and Peter Paul Muller donated his Calf to a petting zoo.
So it is quite unique for us to offer this artwork. If you are interested in the sculpture, or would like to view it, please contact us first.
