Guy Olivier, born in Maastricht in 1964, is a prominent Dutch artist. In his paintings, he celebrates the theatrical exuberance of life on canvas and paper, whether portraits of self-conscious young women, revelers who suddenly see the light, out-of-control dinner parties, or circus-like scenes à la Fellini. At each Guy Olivier exhibition, equipped with a traditional vernissage, the air seems to vibrate between visitors’ eyes and the vibrant canvas.
Guy manages to translate his wonderful sense of color and vibrant joie de vivre directly onto the canvas. I have always watched intently as people enter his gallery.
