About Hans Jochem Bakker

Hans Jochem Bakker (born 1948) lives and works in the Netherlands. A self-taught artist, he comes from an old artistic family and is inspired by such luminaries as Salvador Dalí, Miró and Picasso. These influences are reflected in his subject matter, with particular attention to bullfighting, birds, horses and women.

Artistic development

In his early period, Bakker mainly followed the path of Salvador Dalí, with subject matter full of mystical and nightmarish images. This resulted in highly detailed, extraordinarily cleverly painted visions. Later his method developed into a more expressionist style. The artist liberated himself from his self-imposed limitations, leading to an unbridled joy that was immediately visible in his new works.

Passion and movement

Hans Jochem Bakker paints as spontaneously as possible, honestly and straight from his passionate artist’s heart. Everything is in motion, and that is the main reason for him to keep painting. This completes the act of painting and creates a unity of form, color and movement in each painting.
