About the artist Hans Jochem Bakker

Hans Jochem Bakker (born 1948) lives and works in the Netherlands. A self-taught artist from an old artistic family, he has been inspired by such luminaries as Salvador Dalí, Miró and Picasso. These influences can be seen in his subject matter, in which bullfighting, birds, horses and women play prominent roles.

Artistic evolution and expression

In his early career, Bakker primarily followed the style of Salvador Dalí, with mystical and nightmarish images that resulted in highly detailed and cleverly painted visions. Later he developed a more expressionistic working method, freeing himself from his self-imposed restrictions. His new works radiate unbridled joy at this liberation.

Passion and movement in art

Bakker strives to make his art as spontaneous, honest and passionate as possible. Everything is in motion, and this is also the main reason for him to keep painting. This completes the act of painting and creates a harmonious unity of form, color and movement in each of his works.
