Hans Jochem Bakker (born 1948) is based and active in the Netherlands. He is a self-taught artist with roots in an ancient family of artists. His artistic inspiration comes from such luminaries as Salvador Dalí, Miró and Picasso, and this translates into themes that refer to bullfighting, birds, horses and women, with the temperament of the South.
In his early career, he primarily followed the lead of Salvador Dalí, with themes steeped in mystical and nightmarish imagery, resulting in highly detailed and extraordinarily cleverly painted visions. Later his style evolved into expressionism, in which the artist liberated himself from his self-imposed limitations, and his new work expressed the overwhelming joy of this liberation.
His approach is spontaneous, honest and comes directly from the passionate artist’s heart. Everything in his work is in motion, which makes the act of painting a complete unity of form, color and movement, and that is the essence of why he continues to paint.
