About the artist: Kay Pears
Kay Pears is a visual artist who recently shifted his home base from Australia to the Netherlands. This international move marks a new chapter in his career, in which his iconic sculptures are increasingly finding a place within the European art scene. Pears works primarily with resin, a material that he carefully shapes and then provides with a high-gloss, chrome finish. The result is a series of sculptures that look both contemporary and timeless: sleek in form, but always with a playful, recognizable nod to iconic objects from popular culture.
His art raises questions about aesthetics, recognition and the way we relate to objects that seem familiar but take on new meaning through their refined finish.
