About the artist: Miguel Angel Nuñez
Miguel Angel Nuñez (born in Maldonado, Uruguay in 1966) is an artist whose works have been exhibited nationally and internationally, including in Brazil, Panama, Argentina and Uruguay. His realistic and hyper-realistic still lifes attempt to capture not only the precise appearance of an object or figure, but also its spirit, soul and beauty. Nuñez’s artistic practice revolves around the study of light and textures, and his detailed compositions are created with oils on canvas or wood.
Biography of Miguel A. Nuñez
Miguel A. Nuñez was born in 1966 in Maldonado, Uruguay. From an early age he was fascinated by drawing and studied the work of local painter Manolo Lima. His passion for art led him to a career as an artist, despite Uruguay’s economic challenges. Between 1985 and 1994, he took courses at the Urban School of Visual Arts, where he was taught by Carlos Tonelli and Miguel Battegazore. Battegazore taught him the techniques of hyperrealism, which Nuñez further developed. He received a fellowship to the Arauco Foundation in Madrid, where he worked with Guillermo Muñoz Vera and Antonio López. Since 1996, he has been a professor at the Urban School of Visual Arts and has exhibited his works in several countries, including Uruguay, Argentina, Chile, Paraguay and the EU.
