About the artist
Hans Jochem Bakker (born 1948) lives and works in the Netherlands and is a self-taught artist coming from an old artistic family. Inspired by such luminaries as Salvador Dalí, Miró and Picasso, he incorporated elements of their southern temperament into his own subject matter. His work shows a particular interest in subjects such as bullfighting, birds, horses and women.
Artistic evolution
In his early career, Bakker primarily followed the style of Salvador Dalí, with subject matter full of mystical and nightmarish imagery. This resulted in highly detailed and technically impressive visions. Later, his style evolved to a more expressionistic approach. This change marked a liberation from his previous self-imposed limitations and brought unbridled joy to his new works.
Pure and passionate
Bakker paints as spontaneously as possible, straight from his passionate artist’s heart. His works are constantly changing, which is also the main reason why he continues to paint. This dynamic makes each painting a unity of form, color and movement.
