Emiliana Cordaro: Master of the Landscape
Born in Maarssen in 1967, Emiliana Cordaro completed her education at the Hogeschool voor de Kunsten in Utrecht. Her passion lies in creating impressionistic oil paintings that capture the essence of landscapes. She draws inspiration from the landscapes, towns and villages she explores during her travels, ranging from charming Italian villages to vast European moors and everything in between.
For Emiliana, the atmosphere of the landscape is of much greater importance than a strict representation of reality. She takes the landscape and transforms it into a composition of shapes, lines, colors and contrasts. By using vibrant pigments, she manages to create vivid colors, reminiscent of William Turner’s later work. She models with paint and pigment in layers, as it were, similar to clay, creating atmospheric and sometimes transparent images that bring the original landscape to life. The abundant paint and pigments create paintings with rich layering, giving depth and texture, which, like tasting an exquisite wine, you must take time to fully appreciate. Despite the modern look of her work, it retains a classic feel, thanks in part to the enchanting “Dutch skies.”
