The story of Sergeant Germán Echeverría
Sergeant Germán Echeverría was never afraid of fire. As a child, he loved lighting his father’s cigarettes and enjoyed the specific smell of just-lit matches. His mother always warned him, “Don’t play with fire or you’ll wet the bed.”
In autumn, he would make bonfires with his friends and throw handfuls of salt into the flames, fascinated by the crackling. One night, after burning all the fallen leaves in his garden, he dreamed that he was watering a large tree. The next morning, he decided to dedicate his life to fighting fire. He went to firefighting school and today he is the commander of his neighborhood fire department, known as “The Lucifer.”
