About Hans Jochem Bakker
The artist and his inspiration
Hans Jochem Bakker (born 1948) lives and works in the Netherlands. A self-taught artist from an old artistic family, he has been inspired by such luminaries as Salvador Dalí, Miró and Picasso. These influences can be seen in his subject matter, which often includes bullfighting, birds, horses and women.
Artistic development
In his early period, Bakker mainly followed in the footsteps of Salvador Dalí, with mystical and nightmarish images that were highly detailed and cleverly painted. Later his style evolved into a more expressionistic approach, freeing himself from his self-imposed limitations. His new works exude unbridled joy and spontaneity.
Passion and movement
