About Hans Jochem Bakker
An autodidact with a rich background
Hans Jochem Bakker (born 1948) lives and works in the Netherlands. A self-taught artist from an old artistic family, he has been inspired by such luminaries as Salvador Dalí, Miró and Picasso. This has led to a particular theme in his work, with a focus on bullfighting, birds, horses and women.
From mysticism to expressionism
In his early period, Bakker mainly followed the footsteps of Salvador Dalí, with subject matter full of mystical and nightmarish images. This resulted in detailed and extraordinarily cleverly painted visions. Later, the artist freed himself from this style and embraced expressionism. His new works radiate unbridled joy at this liberation.
A passionate approach
Bakker paints as spontaneously as possible, honestly and straight from his passionate artist’s heart. Everything is in motion, and that is the main reason for him to keep painting.
